Serenity Christian Church is a multicultural faith family dedicated to fostering spiritual growth, meaningful connections, and a strong sense of community. Together, we transform lives and positively impact our world. We are guided, in all things, by the love of Christ.
Our mission is to glorify God by creating an environment where individuals from all backgrounds can deepen their faith, build lasting relationships, and work together to serve and uplift our community.
Our vision is to be a beacon of hope and love, known for our commitment to spiritual growth and community. We aspire to be a church where diversity is celebrated, and every person feels liberated and empowered to live out their faith.
Our story starts at daybreak on a January morning in 1994. It was a small, faithful group of committed Christians who joined Apostle John C. Harvey, endeavoring to establish a church honoring God and dedicated to liberation and justice. Rev. Dr. Kenneth L. Johnson and his congregation at First Community Church of All People were the first to open their doors. As worship began, the group considered names for this newly formed faith community. The suggestion came from Bro. George Crawford - and it was, Serenity Christian Church.
Traveling worship began in January of 1994 as the community voyaged to Ann Arbor to worship with Amistad Community United Church of Christ. The late Rev. Herb Lowe held a special anointing ceremony. February’s journey led to Troy to worship with the Central Woodward Christian Church. The congregation, led by Rev. Daniel Kuhn, celebrated our new faith community. Our first public worship service took place on February 13, 1994, inside the United Temple Church of God in Christ. On that day, 23 people joined Serenity Christian Church.
By the end of 1994, 55 people joined Serenity, housed in United Temple with Pastor David Evans and his congregation for a full year. As the congregation grew, the need for our own church home was pressing, and in February 1995, we moved into a facility at 5801 East 7 Mile Road. The building was dedicated in a special service that was held on May 7, 1995.
After more than a decade of continued growth and building an intentionally diverse faith community, April 2008 brought another blessing - establishing Serenity Christian Church at 24120 N. Chrysler Drive in Hazel Park, Michigan. The building was dedicated on May 18, 2008 and became “home” for our church family.
Today, Serenity Christian Church is a growing, multi-cultural ministry for all ages. We are a loving ministry with the desire to share the Gospel. Together, we believe that we can live redeemed and reconciled.
Tomorrow: A Vision for the Future
As we look toward the future, we continue to praise God for our beginnings. We are reminded, even now, that we must labor. It is our faithful work that will leave a legacy of liberation. Each day, we will strive to make this world a more peaceful, just, and loving place. We will continue to serve the Hazel Park community. We will move forward, claiming victory over every obstacle.
The best is yet to come! To God be the glory! Amen.
Our Belief is that we are an intentionally diverse faith family committed to sharing the truth of God’s Word and His love with others. We believe in embodying the love of Christ through our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We celebrate the unique gifts and backgrounds of every individual, ensuring that all feel valued, respected, and loved in our community. Our faith calls us to promote justice, remove barriers, and create a welcoming space for everyone.
Our Core Values unite us.
We are redeemed by Jesus, the son of God, and receive power through the Holy Spirit.
We are a body of believers who hold fast to our faith in God and know that we can be liberated from sin.
We are to be faithful in our financial giving, intentional in our Christian living, invitational in sharing the Gospel, and engaged in ministry so that others may witness our commitment to Christ.
