Apostle’s Page

John_Knee_compressedGod is awesome! This truth is evidenced in the life of Apostle John C. Harvey. Apostle Harvey has been blessed all along his unique spiritual journey. He received his call to ministry at the age of 16. At the age of 19, he publicly acknowledged his calling at the Oak Grove AME Church in Detroit, Michigan under the leadership of the late Rev. David Mitcham.

As he continued to grow spiritually, he also committed himself to grow intellectually. A visionary and uniquely gifted academician, Apostle Harvey pursued undergraduate studies in Philosophy and Religion as a Lilly Scholar at Wabash College where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. He has also earned a Master of Divinity degree from Yale University Divinity School and was named a Fellow in Pastoral Leadership Development from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Apostle Harvey founded Serenity Christian Church in Detroit, Michigan in 1994. God has and continues to bless Apostle Harvey as he leads the ministry at Serenity. He knows the Lord desires the Church to once again experience miracles, healing, deliverance and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. God desires that those in the body of Christ desire, accept, and utilize spiritual gifts.  These are the things that will help in producing a great harvest of souls for God’s Kingdom.

In October 2001 the apostolic mantle was confirmed in the life of Apostle Harvey. The bible declares that it was Jesus “who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:11-12, NIV).

In 1995, he accepted the call to be the Director of United Campus Christian Ministry at Wayne State University. He had the blessed opportunity to minister to students, staff and faculty on the Wayne State campus. After many awesome years on the Wayne State campus, Apostle Harvey retired this position in October 2006 to focus on full time pastoral ministry.

Apostle Harvey brings life to the Word of God by being actively involved in leadership in community and social justice organizations. He has been an active Board Member for the South Oakland Shelter (SOS) since 2014. He served as Vice-Chair for the Metro Coalition of Congregation for over three years. He also served as the Vice-Chair and most recently the Chair of Detroit Regional Interfaith Voice for Equity (D.R.I.V.E). As an active leader, he seeks to forward the cause of establishing equal and equitable opportunities throughout the Detroit region. He served several years as a Board Member for South Oakland Shelter, now Lighthouse. Since 2022, Apostle Harvey has served as a Regional Associate Minister for the Michigan Region of Disciples of Christ.

The fullness of God continues to manifest daily in the lives of Apostle Harvey and his wife Sandy. They are truly committed to ministry, mentoring, and demonstrating God’s love through their marriage.

Apostle Harvey is truly blessed! He is serious about building the Kingdom of God by breaking down the barriers of doctrine, denomination and race. He desires to see people saved, healed, delivered, liberated and walking victoriously in Jesus Christ. This region is truly blessed to have someone who has the anointing, integrity, and insight of Apostle John C. Harvey!
